RCB Completes Restoration of Ittgalpura and Sadenahalli Lakes to Tackle Bengaluru's Water Crisis

Bengaluru - Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) officially handed over the fully restored Ittgalpura and Sadenahalli Lakes to the local panchayat during a ceremony attended by MLA Shri Vishwanath and RCB Vice President Rajesh Menon. This project, part of RCB’s Go Green Initiative, aims to rejuvenate Bengaluru’s water bodies and address the city's growing water crisis.

In collaboration with India Cares Foundation and Friends of Lakes, RCB presented a comprehensive report outlining the restoration efforts, which included a traditional Ganga Puja to celebrate the lakes’ cultural significance and ensure their long-term sustainability. Local communities are now called upon to maintain these vital resources for future generations.

“Improving drought resistance in water-stressed areas is critical,” said Rajesh Menon. “The restoration of Ittgalpura and Sadenahalli Lakes not only enhances local water security but also improves flood control during monsoon season.”

The project involved the removal of over 50,000 tons of silt and sand, much of which was repurposed by local farmers. RCB also planted over 3,000 trees along the lakes to enhance biodiversity and manage flooding. Engaging over 600 local workers over 300 days, the initiative demonstrates RCB's commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement.

Launched in October 2023, the Lake Improvement Works Project has transformed these lakes into essential components of Bengaluru’s water ecosystem, boosting water supply for downstream bodies and ensuring sustainable management of local resources.
