Kerala Unveils Nationwide Campaign to Boost Domestic Tourism This Summer

Bengaluru - Kerala Tourism has announced a dynamic all-India campaign to enhance domestic tourist footfalls during the upcoming summer holiday season. With a special focus on families and school vacation travelers, the initiative aims to showcase the state’s iconic attractions, lesser-explored destinations, and new tourism products.

“We’re introducing innovative experiences while promoting Kerala’s unique charm, particularly targeting North Kerala destinations like Bekal, Wayanad, and Kozhikode,” said Tourism Minister Shri PA Mohamed Riyas.

Key Features of Kerala’s Tourism Campaign

Innovative Tourism Experiences:

  • Heli-Tourism & Seaplane Services: New projects to enhance connectivity and accessibility across the state.
  • Signature Attractions: Beaches, hill stations, houseboats, and backwaters to enrich tourist experiences.

Cultural and Literary Highlights:

  • Nishagandhi Dance Festival (Feb 15–21): Classical Indian dance forms at Kanakakkunnu Palace.
  • Kerala Literature Festival (Jan 23–26): A premier event at Kozhikode Beach with 400+ speakers from 12+ countries.

Destination Weddings & MICE Events:

  • Kerala is emerging as a top choice for destination weddings and corporate events, blending natural beauty with modern facilities.

Unique Travel Experiences:

  • Houseboats, caravans, jungle stays, Ayurveda wellness, plantation tours, trekking, and countryside walks.

Tourism Growth Milestones:

  • Domestic tourist arrivals surpassed pre-pandemic levels in 2023.
  • Over 10.85 million domestic tourists visited Kerala between January and June 2024.
  • International bookings are nearing pre-COVID levels.

B2B Roadshows and Networking Events:

  • Campaign began with a B2B meet in Hyderabad on January 21.

Upcoming roadshows in cities like Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, and Kolkata to engage travel and hospitality stakeholders.

Tourism Secretary Shri Biju K emphasized the importance of blending innovation with traditional experiences to cater to the evolving preferences of travelers.

“Kerala is not just a destination; it’s an experience that offers culture, luxury, and adventure, making it a top choice for both families and corporate clients,” added Smt. Sikha Surendran, Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala.
