Bengaluru - A high-level team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) visited two shortlisted locations off Kanakapura Road on Tuesday as part of efforts to identify a suitable site for Bengaluru’s much-anticipated second airport. The delegation, which included senior aviation officials, conducted thorough ground assessments before meeting with Infrastructure Development Minister MB Patil to discuss the findings.

Presentation to AAI Highlights Need for Second Airport

During the official meeting, Minister Patil oversaw a live presentation tailored to showcase the necessity of a second civilian airport for Bengaluru. The presentation stressed the city’s surging air traffic, escalating industrial development, and the strain on existing aviation infrastructure.

Minister Emphasises Transparency and Technical Oversight

Minister Patil reassured that the state government is prioritising transparency throughout the site selection process. “The final decision will be rooted in expert analysis, grounded in Bengaluru’s unique infrastructural and logistical needs,” Patil noted.

Third Site Visit Scheduled Near Nelamangala-Kunigal

As part of the broader evaluation, the AAI team will inspect the third proposed location off Nelamangala-Kunigal Road on Wednesday. The outcome of this visit, combined with technical assessments, will form the basis of the final recommendation to the government.
