Bengaluru | January 21- In a strategic move to bolster the Indian Coast Guard’s (ICG) aviation capability, the Deputy Director General (Aviation) of the Indian Coast Guard paid a high-level visit to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru to review the progress of ongoing aviation projects, and to engage in comprehensive discussions on future aircraft inductions and enhancements.

The visit underscores the ICG’s commitment to accelerating modernisation and operational readiness of its air assets a crucial component in strengthening India’s maritime surveillance, search-and-rescue (SAR) and coastal security apparatus.

HAL, a key partner in India’s defence aviation ecosystem, has been supplying and upgrading platforms such as the Dornier 228 maritime surveillance aircraft and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) variants, which significantly contribute to ICG’s mission capabilities.

Officials from both organisations assessed timelines, technical progress and logistics frameworks, as well as potential future requirements, including next-generation airborne platforms and support infrastructures. This review reflects the deepening collaboration between the Coast Guard and HAL under the government’s focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat and indigenous defence production.

Enhancement of the Aviation Wing remains central to ICG’s overarching strategy to safeguard India’s 7,500-kilometre coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) through improved maritime domain awareness and rapid response capabilities against emerging threats such as illegal trafficking, piracy, environmental hazards and maritime accidents.
