New Delhi | January 20,- The newly launched Vande Bharat Sleeper train connecting Kamakhya (KYQ) and Howrah (HWH) has witnessed an overwhelming passenger response, with all tickets for its first commercial journey selling out within hours of the booking window opening.
The premium overnight service, Train No. 27576, is scheduled to begin its maiden commercial run from Kamakhya on January 22 and from Howrah on January 23, 2026. Ticket reservations opened on January 19 at 8 am through PRS and authorised online platforms, and within less than 24 hours, seats across all classes were fully booked.
The unprecedented demand reflects the growing enthusiasm among passengers to experience the speed, comfort and modern amenities of the Vande Bharat Sleeper, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 17, 2026.

Railway officials said the rapid sell-out underscores a clear shift in passenger preference towards faster, safer and more technologically advanced rail travel. Designed for long-distance overnight journeys, the sleeper version of Vande Bharat offers a world-class travel experience, improved journey time and enhanced onboard comfort.
The Kamakhya–Howrah corridor, a vital link between the Northeast and Eastern India, is expected to benefit significantly from this service, boosting regional connectivity and setting new benchmarks for premium rail travel.
The strong public response to the very first commercial run stands as a vote of confidence in Indian Railways’ modernisation drive, marking yet another milestone in the evolution of India’s semi-high-speed rail network.
