₹188.07 Crores Earned Through Scrap Disposal

Bengaluru - South Western Railway (SWR) has scripted history by earning a record-breaking ₹188.07 crore through the disposal of scrap in the financial year 2024-25, outperforming the Railway Board’s target of ₹160 crore. This achievement marks the highest-ever revenue generated from scrap sales in the zone’s history, surpassing the previous record of ₹180.52 crore set in 2022-23.

Remarkably, SWR achieved the Railway Board’s annual target as early as January 23, 2025—more than two months before the close of the fiscal year. The total revenue reflects a 4.2% increase over its previous best, underscoring the zone’s unwavering commitment to efficient resource utilization and financial performance.

Digital Transparency Through Online Auctions

All scrap was sold via Indian Railways’ official e-auction portal www.ireps.gov.in, ensuring transparency, competitiveness, and zero manual interference.

Massive Scrap Cleared for Revenue and Cleanliness

Approximately 19,745 MT of rails and fittings, 4 serviceable locomotives, 38 wagons, 56 condemned coaches, 11,532 MT of ferrous scrap, and 1,500 MT of non-ferrous scrap were disposed of—freeing space and improving cleanliness at railway sites.

The initiative was driven by Principal Chief Materials Manager Shri Maman Singh, who implemented quarterly scrap-mapping drives, leading to efficient identification and disposal.
