Madhya Pradesh Government Set to Lift Ban on Transfers for 15 Days
New Transfer Policy Drafted After Consultations with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Ministers
Bhopal -The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to lift the ban on transfers for a period of 15 days, according to sources. A new transfer policy framework has been drafted, which will be finalized after discussions with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and other ministers. Departmental officials will be tasked with ensuring compliance with the transfer policy, which may involve transfers of officials across various departments, including IAS, IG, SP, IPS, and other categories.
Under the new policy, all departments will have the authority to make transfers on administrative and voluntary grounds. However, transfers exceeding 20% within any category will not be permitted. Transfers for officials in the first category will require approval from the Chief Minister, while those in the second and third categories will be sanctioned by departmental ministers and district-level officers under the supervision of the collector.
Previously, a ban on transfers had been enforced in the state following the declaration of elections, which affected the movement of officers involved in preparing voter lists. As a result, approximately 65,000 officers and employees from various categories such as booth level officers, collectors, commissioners, police superintendents, and inspectors were unable to be transferred without permission from the Election Commission. However, transfers were allowed during this period for officials deemed essential from an administrative perspective.
The state government had previously announced transfer bans annually in May-June, granting departmental ministers the authority to make transfers up to a maximum of 20%. The current relaxation comes after consultations to address the administrative needs and ensure smooth functioning across departments.
