Kerala Becomes First State to Deliver 10th Grade Textbooks Before 9th Grade Exams End
Thiruvananthapuram - In a historic first for Kerala’s public education system, 10th grade students received their textbooks before their 9th grade exams were completed. The initiative, aimed at ensuring a smooth academic transition, was officially launched by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a ceremony at the Kerala Legislative Chamber, Thiruvananthapuram, where he personally handed over textbooks to 9th grade students.
Accompanying the Chief Minister were General Education and Labour Minister V. Sivankutty, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal, Principal Secretary Rani George, Director of Public Instruction S. Shanavas, SCERT Director Dr. R.K. Jayaprakash, SSK State Project Director Dr. Supriya A.R., and KBPS MD Sunil Chacko.
The initiative is part of Kerala’s ongoing curriculum reform under SCERT, ensuring that students have access to the latest educational materials well before the start of their new academic session.
Revolutionizing Textbook Distribution & Curriculum Development
- SCERT is leading a statewide curriculum reform from pre-primary to higher secondary levels.
- First phase completed: Textbooks revised for grades 1 to 10, with higher secondary revisions scheduled for next year.

Record-Breaking Printing & Distribution
- Over 205 new textbook titles have been revised for grades 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 in 2025.
- 40 lakh students to receive 3.8 crore textbooks printed by KBPS.
- Books are distributed free of cost to students from grades 1 to 8.
- Kudumbashree units are responsible for the distribution of textbooks to schools across Kerala.
