HMPV Virus Cases Detected in Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah Assures Swift Action

Bengaluru - Karnataka has reported two cases of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), prompting the state government to take proactive measures to contain its spread. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured the public that all necessary precautions are being implemented to ensure public safety.

Speaking to the media at Vidhana Soudha, the CM said, “HMPV, first identified in China, has been detected in Karnataka. The Health Department has been instructed to take preventive steps to curb its transmission. The Health and Medical Education Departments are already working on appropriate measures.”

Preventive Steps Underway - When asked about restarting airport screenings to detect potential cases, CM Siddaramaiah revealed that the Health Minister is convening a meeting to evaluate the situation and decide on additional preventive measures.

Naxal Surrender Policy -The CM also addressed questions about the possibility of naxalites surrendering, expressing hope for their reintegration into mainstream society. “We are encouraging naxals to surrender, and efforts for their rehabilitation are ongoing,” he said.

Corruption Allegations - Responding to allegations by BJP leader H.D. Kumaraswamy that the state government collects a 60% commission on projects, Siddaramaiah countered by pointing out similar accusations against the previous BJP-led government. He reminded reporters of statements made by the Contractors’ Association President during Basavaraj Bommai’s tenure, alleging corruption.
