Kerala Government Unveils Model Resettlement Plan for Wayanad Landslide Victims

Wayanad ,Kerala - In a significant move towards aiding the victims of the recent Wayanad landslide, the Kerala government, led by Minister of Industries P. Rajeev, announced plans to develop a model resettlement project. Speaking at a meeting with estate owners and representatives at the Wayanad Collectorate, Minister Rajeev emphasized the government's vision of a safe township model. He called for cross-sector collaboration to bring this vision to fruition.

The resettlement project will be funded through the government's disaster relief fund. Minister Rajeev addressed concerns about the transparency of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, dismissing allegations as baseless propaganda. He clarified that the Financial Department Secretary manages the fund, with detailed accounts accessible under the Right to Information Act and subject to audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

The affected individuals, currently housed in temporary camps, have faced immense losses, including family members, homes, and livelihoods. To identify suitable relocation sites, the government has appointed A. Geetha, Joint Commissioner of Land Revenue and former District Collector of Wayanad. Minister Rajeev praised the estate owners and organizations that have shown a willingness to assist in the resettlement efforts.

The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Minister for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development O.R. Kelu, Principal Secretary of the Department of Industries A.P.M. Mohammed Haneesh, Land Revenue Commissioner A. Kaushikan, and Wayanad Special Officer Sriram Sambashiv Rao. Representatives from major companies like Moonnar Kannan Devan Hills, Mukkom Parisons Estate, and Wayanad Coffee Growers Association were also present.
