Navy personnel join forces with military units and volunteers in Wayanad and Nilambur, delivering aid and conducting rescue missions.
Wayanad,Kerala - In response to the devastating landslides in the Wayanad and Nilambur regions, the Indian Navy has deployed a team of 78 personnel to aid in rescue and relief efforts. The Navy is working closely with other military units and local volunteers to assist affected communities. Navy helicopters are conducting search and rescue missions, covering areas like Chooralmala and Mundakkai.
The operation is strategically divided into two main teams: one focused on searching riverbanks and another operating in the mountainous regions. A dedicated team is also responsible for delivering essential supplies to those in need. A medical post has been set up in Chooralmala to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
In addition to ground operations, the Navy played a crucial role in the construction of a Bailey bridge, with three officers and 30 personnel contributing to the effort alongside the Indian Army. Navy helicopters were utilized to transport rescue equipment to the disaster zone, especially when road access was blocked. Despite challenging weather conditions, the Navy successfully conducted aerial surveys to assess the situation.
Coordination of the Navy's operations is being managed from INS Samudra, situated in the Seven Hills area, ensuring efficient and organized relief efforts.
