Kochi- In a commendable display of emergency response prowess, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) orchestrated a successful medical evacuation operation from MV Anvil Point, situated off the Kochi coast. The operation, conducted on May 16, 2024, saw the timely rescue of Kenneth Hiller, a 62-year-old British national, who was grappling with a critical medical condition suspected to be deep vein thrombosis.

The sequence of events unfolded when the United Kingdom Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) issued a medical emergency alert to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, concerning the health crisis aboard MV Anvil Point. The vessel, en route from Dubai to Muara, faced a dire situation requiring immediate intervention.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, MRCC Mumbai swiftly directed the MRSC in Kochi to spearhead the rescue operation. Simultaneously, the vessel was advised to expedite its journey towards Kochi for the impending medical evacuation. MRSC Kochi, in collaboration with medical experts via telemedicine, assessed the patient's condition and provided essential first aid guidance.

Subsequently, ICG ship C-410, equipped with a medical team, was dispatched from District Headquarters No. 4 (Kerala & Mahe) to rendezvous with MV Anvil Point. Additionally, ICGS Arnvesh was redirected to the scene to offer supplementary medical aid and facilitate the safe transfer of the patient ashore.

Upon reaching MV Anvil Point, ICG ship C-410 embarked Kenneth Hiller, administering initial medical assistance during the voyage to Kochi harbor. Upon arrival, the patient was expeditiously transferred to a nearby hospital for further medical attention. Reports indicate that the patient's condition is stable, with medical personnel closely monitoring his progress.
