Abhishek Sharma Shatters T20 World Record with Blazing Century in IPL Showdown
The SRH opener’s 55-ball rampage leaves cricket world stunned; breaks multiple IPL and world records in one innings.

Highest IPL score by an Indian in a run chase
Hyderabad - Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma unleashed a batting masterclass on Saturday night, rewriting the T20 record books with a blistering century against Punjab Kings. His 141-run storm, scored off just 55 balls, powered SRH to a crushing eight-wicket victory and established him as one of the most formidable young forces in global cricket.
The left-hander reached his hundred in only 40 deliveries, becoming the fifth-fastest centurion in IPL history and the third-fastest Indian to achieve the feat. But what set the night apart was the world record he etched into the sport’s archives — Abhishek is now the first player in T20 history to hit three centuries off 40 balls or fewer.
Previously, Abhishek stunned cricket enthusiasts with a 28-ball century during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Meghalaya and followed it up with a 37-ball ton against England in 2025. His latest masterpiece against Punjab now crowns him the fastest to hit three sub-40-ball centuries in T20s — a feat unmatched by legends like David Miller, Dasun Shanaka, or Urvil Patel.
The magnitude of his innings extended beyond individual brilliance. Abhishek’s 141 stands as the highest score by an Indian in an IPL run chase and the fourth-highest individual T20 score by an Indian batter. He also smashed 14 fours and 10 sixes, setting a new franchise record for Sunrisers Hyderabad for most sixes in a single IPL innings.
Adding another feather to his cap, the 24-year-old surpassed Shubman Gill as the youngest batter to hit seven T20 centuries before turning 25, further solidifying his position as one of India’s brightest batting talents.
The match, played at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, saw Punjab Kings post a mammoth 245/6. But SRH’s opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, dismantled the target with a 171-run opening stand, the second-highest partnership for the franchise. Head contributed 66 runs off 37 balls, playing the perfect support act to Abhishek’s historic knock.
