Vadodara – The 86th UTT Junior and Youth Nationals concluded at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex with a stellar performance by West Bengal’s Ankur Bhattacharjee, who claimed his third gold medal in the Under-19 Boys Singles final. Ankur defeated Tamil Nadu’s P.B. Abhinand 4-1, cementing his status as the most decorated player of the tournament.
The tournament witnessed Ankur’s dominance as he swept the Under-19 category, securing team, doubles, and singles titles. His consistent gameplay and mental fortitude set him apart, marking him as a rising star in Indian table tennis.
For Abhinand, the tournament ended with an impressive tally of two golds and two silvers. Despite his loss in the Under-19 final, he showcased exceptional talent and resilience, highlighting his growing prominence in the sport.
Ankur Bhattacharjee: A Dominant Force
The Under-19 Singles final saw Ankur display unmatched precision and strategic prowess. After taking the first game, Abhinand leveled the score, but Ankur’s nail-biting 13-11 victory in the third game shifted the momentum. He maintained his dominance, winning the final two games 11-7 to clinch the title.
Ankur also partnered with Shankadip Das in the doubles category, defeating fellow Bengal teammates Punit Biswas and Oishik Ghosh 3-1 in the final. This victory capped off his golden hat-trick, a rare feat in national tournaments.
Abhinand’s Redemption in Under-17
Abhinand found solace in the Under-17 Boys Singles final, defeating West Bengal’s Punit Biswas 4-1. With calculated placements and sharp reflexes, he controlled the game from start to finish, earning his second gold medal.
Teaming up with S. Sriram, Abhinand secured the Under-17 Boys Doubles title in a thrilling five-game final against Delhi’s Atherva Gupta and Sarthak Arya. The duo’s tactical gameplay and cohesive coordination proved decisive in the decider.
