Injury Scare for Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Aakash Deep Before Melbourne Test; All Three Likely to Play
Despite Practice Session Injuries, Indian Trio’s Participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s Fourth Test Remains Uncertain
Melbourne - In a pre-match scare ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s fourth Test, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, opening batsman KL Rahul, and pacer Aakash Deep sustained injuries during a practice session. However, the latest updates suggest that none of the injuries are serious, and all three players are likely to be available for selection in the playing XI for the December 26 match in Melbourne.
The trio’s injuries, which occurred during the practice session, had raised concerns among fans, but sources have assured that there is no cause for major concern. Rohit Sharma, who has struggled with his batting form in the current series, was seen sitting on a chair with an ice pack on his knee during the practice session, sparking rumors of an injury. Rohit has managed only 19 runs in three innings across two Tests in this series against Australia.
Meanwhile, Aakash Deep and Rahul also faced minor injuries. Aakash Deep was hurt during a throw-down drill, while Rahul sustained a blow to his hand. Despite the discomfort, both players continued with the session. Aakash Deep later clarified that such injuries are common during practice, emphasizing that his injury is minor. Rohit, despite the injury scare, resumed practice and worked with the physio. Although no official statement has been issued regarding Rohit's condition, it is widely believed that his injury is not serious.
As per reports, the pitch prepared for the practice session seemed more suited to white-ball cricket, as some deliveries kept low, which may have contributed to the injuries.
Chetan Sharma Criticizes India's Batting Order, Suggests Rohit Sharma Open
In the midst of these developments, former selector Chetan Sharma raised concerns about India's batting order, especially questioning the decision to have Rohit Sharma bat at number six. Speaking to India TV, Chetan Sharma said that India's batting has been disappointing in the series so far, although he acknowledged the bowlers’ excellent performances.
Sharma suggested that India should consider reshuffling the batting order, recommending that Rohit Sharma return to the opening position. He stated, “Rohit Sharma puts pressure on the bowlers when he opens, which is crucial in this series. He’s a player who frustrates bowlers and dominates them. I think Rohit should open, and KL Rahul can bat anywhere in the order, as he can score runs at any position.”
He also pointed out that, while Jasprit Bumrah has been consistently taking five-wicket hauls, the other bowlers have been struggling to take wickets in a similar fashion, and they need to support Bumrah better.
