Maaya Rajeshwaran Clinches ITF J300 Girls' Singles Title, Hwang Dominates Boys' Final

NEW DELHI - India's rising tennis star Maaya Rajeshwaran showcased her resilience and skill to claim the girls' singles title at the prestigious ITF J300 tournament held at the DLTA Complex. Meanwhile, South Korea's Donghyon Hwang delivered a commanding performance to emerge as the boys' singles champion.

Maaya’s Grit and Glory

The 15-year-old Maaya, playing in front of a home crowd, overcame a tough challenge from Russia’s Ekaterina Tupitsyna in a thrilling three-set final, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. This victory marks her first singles title since December 2023, ending a period of struggle in the first half of the 2024 season.

Tupitsyna dominated the opening set, putting Maaya on the back foot early. However, the Indian youngster displayed remarkable composure and determination to turn the match around. Building on her momentum, Maaya capitalized on her opponent’s fatigue to seal the decisive third set.

“I had beaten her 4-5 months ago, but I wasn’t at my best today. I almost lost the second set, but I had to focus and take risks. I’m glad I pulled it off,” said Maaya, reflecting on her hard-fought victory.

Maaya's win in New Delhi adds to her title from Pune in December 2023 and is a testament to her growing prowess in the sport.

Hwang’s Dominance

In stark contrast, Donghyon Hwang of South Korea displayed complete dominance in the boys' singles final, defeating India’s Roshan Santhosh with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory. Roshan, who had impressed throughout the tournament, appeared subdued in the final, unable to match Hwang's intensity and precision.

The comprehensive win underlined Hwang's consistency and skill as he emerged as the undisputed champion in the boys' category.

The ITF J300 tournament at the DLTA Complex witnessed high-quality performances from young talents, showcasing the future stars of international tennis. While Maaya and Hwang stole the spotlight, the tournament served as a platform for budding players to make their mark on the global stage.
