Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy Felicitates Kho Kho Champions for World Championship Victory
Indigenous Sports Like Kho Kho Are Flourishing Under PM Modi's Vision, Says Kumaraswamy as Karnataka's Gowtham and Chaithra Shine on Global Stage
New Delhi - Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy recently celebrated the success of India’s men’s and women’s Kho Kho teams, who triumphed at the Kho Kho World Championship. The event, held at Udyog Bhawan, honored the athletes for their remarkable achievements and highlighted the revival of India’s indigenous sports under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Among those celebrated were Karnataka’s own Gowtham, hailing from Maddur in Mandya, and Chaithra, from T. Narsipura in Mysuru, both of whom played pivotal roles in securing victory for the national teams. The Union Minister also recognized Sumit Bhatia, the chief coach of the women’s team, and Rajkumari, the team manager, for their critical contributions to the teams’ success.
In his speech, Kumaraswamy said, “These victories go beyond mere championships; they represent the resurgence of our cultural heritage. Under Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership, indigenous games like Kho Kho are thriving and are now shining on the global stage.” He also expressed pride in the athletes' exceptional performances, noting their dedication and resilience.
“Gowtham and Chaithra have made Karnataka proud,” Kumaraswamy continued. “Their excellence on the global stage exemplifies the talent nurtured in our state and across the nation.”
The minister emphasized the government’s focus on supporting grassroots sports and ensuring better infrastructure, financial backing, and opportunities for emerging athletes. “We are committed to creating an environment where talents like Gowtham and Chaithra can flourish. The government is dedicated to empowering athletes and preserving the legacy of our traditional games,” Kumaraswamy added.
He also lauded the hard work and leadership of Sumit Bhatia and Rajkumari, stating, “Behind every victorious team are mentors who guide and support them. Sumit Bhatia’s coaching and Rajkumari’s management were key to this historic win.”
The felicitation ceremony was a proud moment for the country, signaling the growing recognition and promotion of indigenous sports. Kumaraswamy encouraged the public and sports enthusiasts to celebrate such achievements and support the continued success of traditional games. “These athletes are not only champions; they are ambassadors of our rich heritage,” he concluded, inspiring young athletes to take pride in India’s traditional sports.
