India’s Knockout Show in Brazil: 6-Medal Haul in Maiden World Boxing Cup Appearance

Brazil - India's boxing contingent announced its arrival on the elite international stage with a stellar performance at the World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, held in Foz do Iguaçu, clinching six medals —

a historic gold, a fighting silver, and four bronze medals — in its debut appearance at the elite meet organized by World Boxing.

Leading the charge was Hitesh, who became the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the prestigious tournament. Hitesh was declared winner in the 70kg category final after his English opponent, Odel Kamara, was forced to withdraw due to injury.

In another thrilling bout, Abhinash Jamwal went toe-to-toe with Brazil’s Yuri Reis in the 65kg final, eventually settling for a silver medal after a close contest.

India’s medal haul was further bolstered by four bronze finishes, courtesy of Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55kg), Sachin (60kg), and Vishal (90kg) — all of whom delivered gritty performances to reach the semifinals.

Speaking after his win, Hitesh credited a 10-day training camp in Brazil as vital preparation.

“The camp helped me fine-tune my tactical game, and this medal is a reflection of how much we’ve gained from this experience,” he said.

India had sent a 10-member squad to the tournament — its first major international boxing event since the Paris 2024 Olympics. The strong showing not only reflects the depth of talent but also sets the tone for the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with renewed hope and momentum.
