Indian Navy Charts Course for Self-Reliance: Vision Document to be Unveiled at Aero India 2025
Navy’s Technological Roadmap 2047 Aims at Transforming Naval Aviation; Indigenous Innovations to Take Center Stage

Bengaluru - In a significant step towards self-reliance, the Indian Navy has reinforced its commitment to ‘Aatmanirbharta’ by transitioning from a Buyer’s Navy to a Builder’s Navy. With over 60 warships under construction in Indian shipyards, the Navy has also set a firm course in aviation. The vision document ‘Aatmanirbhar Indian Naval Aviation – Technological Roadmap 2047’ is slated for release during Aero India 2025, scheduled from February 10-14 at Air Force Station Yelahanka, Bengaluru.
Strengthening India’s Naval Aviation
Aero India 2025 serves as a premier platform for users, R&D establishments, academia, industry partners, MSMEs, and startups to collaborate and contribute to the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 through the aviation sector. The Indian Navy will leverage the event to highlight its future requirements, allowing industry players to showcase their capabilities in Systems, Structures, and Software, essential for Naval Aviation platforms.
Showcasing Naval Aviation Excellence
Unlike other defense wings, the Indian Navy operates over vast oceans, often away from public visibility. Aero India 2025 presents an opportunity to exhibit naval aviation assets, including:
- MiG-29K – Fourth-generation carrier-borne fighter aircraft
- Kamov 31 – Airborne Early Warning helicopter
- Seaking 42B & MH 60 R – Anti-Submarine and Anti-Ship helicopters
Light Combat Aircraft (Navy) – Designed by Aeronautical Design Agency (ADA) and manufactured by HAL, which successfully landed on INS Vikrant, positioning India among the select nations capable of designing, developing, and manufacturing deck-borne fighter aircraft.
VARUNA Formation Fly-past – Featuring P8I flanked by MiG-29K and Hawk 132, signifying victory.
Spotlight on Indigenous Innovation
In line with ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’ the India Pavilion will feature cutting-edge indigenous projects developed in collaboration with DRDO and industry partners, including:
- Advanced Missiles
- Air-Droppable Search and Rescue Kit (SAR)
- Air-Droppable Container (ADC) for Logistic Stores
- Carrier-Borne Systems for MiG-29K
- Advanced Lightweight Torpedo (ALWT)
Scaled Model of the Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF) – India’s future deck-borne fighter.
Additionally, startups working on futuristic naval aviation platforms will showcase their innovations, reinforcing India’s technological prowess.
Key Seminar on Future-Ready Naval Aviation
To foster collaboration and drive self-reliance, a dedicated seminar titled ‘Transition to Aatmanirbhar Indian Naval Aviation – 2047 and Its Associated Ecosystem’ will be held on February 12, 2025. The session will focus on strengthening industry-academia-DRDO partnerships to achieve self-reliance by India’s centennial Independence Day.
A Milestone for India’s Defence Forces
Having evolved in scale and significance, Aero India 2025 is poised to be a crucial milestone in empowering India’s Naval Aviation and strengthening the country’s defense self-sufficiency.
