India-US Troops Wrap Up Joint Training in Visakhapatnam, Set Course for Sea Phase of Tiger Triumph 2025

Visakhapatnam -: In a powerful demonstration of growing defence cooperation, the Indian and United States Armed Forces have successfully concluded the harbour phase of Exercise Tiger Triumph 2025 in Visakhapatnam. This landmark tri-service Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise is now shifting to its sea phase in Kakinada, with joint maritime drills and amphibious operations lined up.

The harbour phase involved exhaustive military coordination featuring combat firing, jungle warfare, small arms training, and close-quarter battle simulations in challenging terrain.

High-Impact Tactical Drills

Troops from India’s 8 Gorkha Infantry Battalion Group (Amphibious Brigade, Bison Division under Sudarshan Chakra Corps) and the US Army’s 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment (“Bobcats”) of the 11th Airborne Division, alongside the US Marine Corps’ 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, engaged in integrated fieldcraft and buddy-pair combat drills at the Duvvada Firing Range.

Tactical modules included Jungle Lane Shooting, close-quarter battle, obstacle navigation, and Combat Medical Aid training, highlighting real-world readiness and tri-service coordination.

Vertical Warfare, Leadership, and Cultural Synergy

Training at INS Karna featured mountain warfare techniques, including knotting, rope stretcher building, and vertical mobility exercises like rock climbing, slithering, and rappelling.

Rear Admiral Greg Newkirk, Commander, Task Force 70, U.S. Navy, and the Indian Gorkha Rifles Battalion CO personally led live firing and jungle manoeuvres, symbolizing strong field leadership and bilateral trust. High-ranking officers from Eastern Naval Command and Integrated Defence Staff also witnessed the drills.

Adding a cultural layer to military camaraderie, troops from both sides participated in joint Yoga and AMAR (Army Martial Arts Routine) sessions. The “Gorkha Fury”—a spectacular Khukri martial dance—was a resounding hit among US personnel, celebrating the heritage and fighting spirit of Indian soldiers.

Sea Phase: From Shore to Strategy

Following the successful harbour phase, the Indian and US contingents are now en route to Kakinada to commence the sea phase of Tiger Triumph 2025. This phase will include amphibious landings, joint maritime operations, and HADR response simulations, further advancing Indo-US interoperability and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific and Indian Ocean Region.
