Air Vice Marshal R. Guruhari Takes Charge as Commandant of Software Development Institute, IAF
A seasoned leader with over three decades of experience, AVM Guruhari will lead the prestigious Software Development Institute (SDI) in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru – Air Vice Marshal (AVM) R. Guruhari has officially assumed command as the new Commandant of the Software Development Institute (SDI), Indian Air Force (IAF), in Bengaluru on January 1, 2025.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, AVM Guruhari brings vast experience to his new role. He has held several key Command and Staff appointments, including Chief Engineering Officer at two major forward fighter air bases of the IAF, Director of Operations (IW), and Director of PO-1 (L). As the head of the Air Force Project Management Team at the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) LRDE in Bengaluru, he played a crucial role in advancing radar technologies for the IAF.
Additionally, AVM Guruhari previously served as the Air Officer Commanding of the Central Servicing Development Organization (CSDO), where he contributed to the development of maintenance philosophies for the IAF.
A graduate in Computer Science Engineering (B.E.), AVM Guruhari has previously been associated with SDI, bringing both technical expertise and leadership to the role. His educational background includes the prestigious Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the Higher Defence Management Course at CDM, Secunderabad.
Before assuming his current position, AVM Guruhari was the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Weapons) at Air Headquarters.
Known for his enthusiasm for sports and adventure activities, AVM Guruhari is married to Mrs. Ganga Joshi, a professional artist, educator, and career guidance counselor. Their son, G. Satyamitran, holds a postgraduate degree in Public Policy and works as a policy advisor.
