Bengaluru – In a significant move towards enhancing engineering education and fostering technological innovation, the Software Development Institute (SDI) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and P.E.S. College of Engineering, Mandya, Karnataka, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, formalized today, marks a pivotal step in strengthening collaboration between the defense sector and academia.

The MoU is set to drive joint research and development initiatives that aim to elevate both engineering education and defense technology. It outlines several key objectives, including:

Internship and Project Work: Final-year engineering students from P.E.S. College will have the opportunity to engage in internship-based projects at the SDI. These projects will integrate into their curriculum, providing practical experience and contributing to real-world problem-solving.

Custom Training Programs: Tailored training programs will be developed to equip Indian Air Force personnel with advanced skills and knowledge, addressing their evolving requirements and boosting operational capabilities.

Product and Process Development: The collaboration will focus on the development of new products and processes, leveraging the combined expertise of both institutions to tackle emerging technological challenges.

The MoU is effective for a period of five years, during which the institutions will work closely to meet the outlined objectives and explore additional avenues for cooperation.

Sri K.S. Vijay Anand, President of P.E.S. College of Engineering, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will create for our students and faculty. Collaborating with the Indian Air Force on R&D projects and custom training programs will enrich our academic environment and provide our students with unparalleled learning experiences.”

Air Vice Marshal KN Santosh, Commandant of SDI, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, saying, “Teaming with PES College marks another significant milestone in our academic and defense engineering R&D efforts. This partnership will offer students valuable avionics software experience through hands-on projects, easing their transition into high-demand job roles. Additionally, it will help SDI design and develop new software products and processes to meet the demands of emerging technologies, supporting the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vision 2047.”
