Congress Undermining Constitution by Granting Reservations Based on Religion
New Delhi – Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has strongly criticized the Congress party for granting reservations to minorities, calling it a blatant violation of constitutional principles. He accused the ruling party of using reservation policies to strengthen its vote bank while creating social unrest in Karnataka.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Tuesday, Bommai said, “The Congress government in Karnataka, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is deceiving the backward classes. The state has allocated 4% reservation to minorities, which is unconstitutional. We had reversed this decision, and the matter is now under review by the Supreme Court. Despite this, Congress is misleading people by claiming to support backward classes while actually granting unconstitutional quotas to minorities.”
Bommai emphasized that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, had categorically opposed religion-based reservations. “Congress is not only violating Ambedkar’s principles but also destroying the core values of the Constitution. This move is an attempt to create social disharmony and divide communities for political gains,” he warned.

The BJP leader also accused the Congress of distorting history for its political survival. He alleged that the party had actively worked to defeat Dr. Ambedkar in parliamentary elections by fielding wealthy candidates against him.
“Did Veer Savarkar ever campaign against Ambedkar? No. It was the Congress party that ensured Ambedkar’s defeat. In fact, then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru himself campaigned against him. Twisting history now to suit their political narrative is neither fair nor meaningful,” Bommai asserted.
RSS Targeted for Political Gains, Bommai Slams Congress’ Strategy
Responding to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s criticism of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bommai defended the organization, stating that it was founded to serve society and address injustices against the underprivileged during British rule.
“Siddaramaiah attacks the RSS because he thinks it will help consolidate his vote bank. The RSS has been around for over 75 years since independence, and even former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and ex-President Pranab Mukherjee acknowledged its contributions. Siddaramaiah is using RSS as a tool to prove his loyalty to Congress since he is not an original party leader. But people already know the truth,” Bommai said.
He also condemned the eviction controversy surrounding Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s farmhouse, calling it an example of Congress’ “vendetta politics.”
