Chandigarh: With the much-anticipated 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just days away, Punjab Kings launched their season with a high-energy press conference in Chandigarh. Addressing the media were Head Coach Ricky Ponting, newly appointed Captain Shreyas Iyer, and CEO Satish Menon, who shed light on the team’s strategies, strengths, and ambitions for IPL 2025.
Shreyas Iyer, who joins Punjab Kings as captain, brings IPL-winning leadership experience to the franchise. Ricky Ponting, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, expressed his delight at working with Iyer again and emphasized the team’s winning mentality.

Ponting was full of praise for Iyer, stating, “He's a great human being and an IPL-winning captain. We could not have asked for more. He has just joined the camp, and he is already making his mark on the team. His leadership qualities will evolve further as we head into our first game.”
Ponting also highlighted the balance in the squad, which he believes will be instrumental in the team’s success. “We have an excellent mix of youth and experience. Our Indian core is strong, and our overseas players bring high-quality international experience,” he added.
Iyer reciprocated the enthusiasm, emphasizing how working with Ponting again has boosted his confidence. “When I worked with him in the past, he made me believe I could excel in this format. The confidence he instills in players is at another level.”

Punjab Kings kick off their campaign on March 25, facing Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They will then return to their home ground, the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, for back-to-back matches against Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.
