Doordarshan to Telecast T20 World Cup Matches
Prasar Bharati Announces Extensive Sports Coverage Including Paris Olympics 2024 and Wimbledon 2024
New Delhi- Prasar Bharati has announced the telecast of the T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and USA starting June 2, on the DD Free Dish platform. This coverage will be followed by broadcasts of major international sporting events, including the Paris Olympics Games 2024 and Wimbledon 2024.
The announcement was made by Prasar Bharati CEO Shri Gaurav Dwivedi at a media interaction in New Delhi. During the event, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Sanjay Jaju, along with Prasar Bharati Chairman Shri Navneet Kumar Sehgal and DG Doordarshan Ms. Kanchan Prasad, launched a special anthem for the T20 World Cup titled ‘Jazba,’ sung by Shri Sukhwinder Singh. Additionally, a promotional video narrated by famed storyteller Shri Neelesh Misra was released.
Doordarshan's upcoming sports telecasts include:
- Paris Olympics Games 2024: Live/deferred live coverage from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
- Paris Paralympic Games: Coverage from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
- International Cricket Series: India vs. Zimbabwe (July 6-11, 2024) and India vs. Sri Lanka (July 27 - August 7, 2024).
- French Open 2024 Finals: Ladies' and Men’s finals on June 8 and 9, 2024.
- Wimbledon 2024 Finals: Ladies' and Men’s finals on July 13 and 14, 2024.
Doordarshan has secured agreements with global sports organizations, such as the NBA and PGTA, to broadcast their content on DD Sports. The NBA’s e-sports property, NBA 2K League matches, are currently being aired on the DD Sports Channel.
Prasar Bharati is in advanced negotiations with various sports bodies to further expand its sports offerings on DD Sports. Updates will be provided as these partnerships are finalized.
In addition, Shri Dwivedi highlighted the comprehensive arrangements made by Doordarshan and All India Radio for the election counting process on Tuesday. Over the past year, DD Sports has produced and broadcast numerous sporting events, including the Khelo India University Games, Khelo India Youth Games, National Games, and Khelo India Winter Games.
Furthermore, Doordarshan produced the world feed for cricket matches at the Hangzhou Asian Games in China, and had television rights for the Indian Cricket Team’s tour of the West Indies in August 2023. Commentary for these events was provided in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Kannada, broadcast across Doordarshan's regional channels.
