Karnataka Congress to Stage 'Raj Bhavan Chalo' Protest on August 31st Over Investigation Delays
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar Demands Governor’s Approval for Pending Case Investigations
Bengaluru - Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has called for action from the Governor regarding pending case investigations, announcing a 'Raj Bhavan Chalo' protest by the Congress party on August 31, 2024.
Speaking at a press conference at the KPCC office on Tuesday, Shivakumar expressed frustration over the Governor's inaction on several high-profile cases, including those involving central minister Kumaraswamy, former ministers Murugesh Nirani, Janardhan Reddy, and Shashikala Jolle. “The Congress party will march to the Raj Bhavan to demand that the Governor grant permission for investigations into these pending cases,” Shivakumar said.
The Deputy Chief Minister criticized the Governor for delaying action on cases related to illegal mining approvals. He pointed out that despite a decade-long investigation by the Lokayukta, no permission for further inquiry into Kumaraswamy’s alleged misconduct has been granted. “Kumaraswamy has never engaged in fake work; he is known for his genuine efforts,” he added.
The protest will begin at 10 AM from the Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha, with participation expected from Chief Minister, all ministers, Congress legislators, Legislative Council members, and parliamentarians. Shivakumar highlighted concerns about the uneven application of investigation permissions, noting that while some leaders have faced scrutiny, others have not.
