Karnataka CM Defends Government Actions Amidst Legislative Assembly Scrutiny on Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation Irregularities
Chief Minister highlights state initiatives for SC/ST welfare while addressing allegations of misconduct within corporation
Bengaluru - Karnataka Chief Minister [CM's Name] defended his government's commitment to social and economic development for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) during a heated discussion in the Legislative Assembly regarding alleged irregularities in the Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation.
The CM underscored the implementation of the SCSP/TSP Act since 2013, emphasizing its role in advancing SC/ST welfare, a move paralleled only by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh among Indian states. He questioned why BJP-led states and the central government had not adopted similar measures.
"We have enforced reservations in promotions for SC/ST government employees, upheld by the Supreme Court, and introduced SC/ST reservation for contracts up to Rs One Crore, a pioneering step in India," the CM stated.
Further outlining his government's initiatives, he highlighted a special loan facility at 4% interest for SC/ST entrepreneurs, alongside a 75% subsidy for SC/ST land purchases through KIADB. "These actions demonstrate our unwavering commitment to social justice," he affirmed.
Addressing recent controversies within the Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation, the CM assured transparency and accountability. "On May 27, 2024, an FIR was filed on the day of Chandrasekhar's tragic demise, and investigations began promptly," he clarified. He noted that the corporation's General Manager had also filed a complaint the next day, signaling swift legal action against any wrongdoing.
"We stand firm against malpractice and vow no protection for wrongdoers," the CM asserted. "Our administration is committed to upholding the law without bias."
The CM's comprehensive defense sought to reassure legislators and the public of his government's proactive stance on SC/ST issues while addressing concerns raised in the assembly.
