India’s Top Women Boxers Set to Clash at 8th Elite National Championship in Greater Noida

New Delhi - The highly anticipated 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship is set to bring together around 300 of India’s top women boxers at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, from March 21 to 27, 2025. Organised by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in association with the UP Boxing Association, the prestigious event will be a key milestone in the new Olympic preparation cycle for the next three years.

Returning to the same venue that hosted the previous edition in 2023, the championship promises high-octane action as elite boxers from across the country vie for national supremacy.

Olympic Preparation Platform:

“The Elite Women’s National Championship has always been a breeding ground for future champions. This edition will play a crucial role in identifying and grooming boxers for the upcoming international events, including the Olympic qualifiers,” said BFI Secretary General Hemanta Kumar Kalita.

Tournament Format and Eligibility:

The championship is open to boxers born between January 1, 1984, and December 31, 2005, with each state unit allowed to field a maximum of 10 boxers. The bouts will follow the standard three-round format of three-minute rounds with one-minute rest intervals, adhering to the World Boxing and BFI competition rules.

Entries by numbers close on March 10, with final name confirmations due by March 15. All boxers will undergo a daily weigh-in throughout the tournament.

Event Schedule:

  • March 20: Arrival, Draw, and Technical Meeting
  • March 21-24: Preliminary Rounds
  • March 25: Quarter-finals
  • March 26: Semi-finals
  • March 27: Finals

Star Performers and Defending Champions:

Defending champions Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) will look to retain their title after clinching five gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals in the last edition. Haryana, who finished second with three golds, three silvers, and one bronze, will be aiming to outshine their rivals this year.

The tournament will also witness the participation of over 100 coaches and support staff, along with 60 technical officials, ensuring a top-tier boxing spectacle.

With India producing world-class women boxers like Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, and Mary Kom, this championship will serve as a platform for identifying the next generation of stars who could represent the country on the global stage.
