India to Contest Women’s 57kg Category at 2nd World Olympic Qualifiers as Parveen Hooda Faces Ineligibility - Boxing Federation of India

New Delhi- Following the suspension of Indian boxer Parveen Hooda, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has taken steps to ensure India's representation in the women’s 57kg weight category at the upcoming Paris Olympics. Hooda's ineligibility has prompted the BFI, in consultation with the Boxing Paris Unit, to prepare for the 2nd World Olympic qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Bangkok.

Parveen Hooda, who secured a quota for Paris 2024 with a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games, received a 22-month suspension from the International Testing Agency (ITA) due to Whereabouts Failures.

Efforts to mitigate Hooda's suspension involved legal representation from Krida Legal led by Vidushpat Singhania, in collaboration with officials from the Boxing Federation of India, including Colonel Arun Malik. Despite these efforts, Hooda's suspension stands, prompting a reduction in her suspension period to 14 months, starting from May 17, 2024.

Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, expressed regret over Hooda's inability to compete for India but emphasized gratitude for securing India's continued representation in the weight category. Singh also highlighted the collaborative efforts involved in reducing Hooda's suspension period.

Hemanta Kalita, Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India, elaborated on the circumstances leading to Hooda's suspension, citing technical challenges with the Anti-Doping Administration & Management System (ADAMS) platform. Hooda's legal counsel, Vidushpat Singhania, reiterated that Hooda's failure to comply with whereabouts information stemmed from technical limitations rather than intentional wrongdoing.

In a bid to maintain India's representation in the women’s 57kg category, the Federation declined the quota spot won by Hooda, making it available for the 2nd World Olympic qualifiers. This decision aligns with Hooda's expressed regret over her inability to participate in the Paris Olympics.

With preparations underway for the 2nd World Olympic qualifiers, India remains committed to securing its place in the women’s 57kg category and aiming for success on the global stage.
