Mumbai - India’s 15-member squad for the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been officially announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament will kick off on February 19, with India set to play their opening match against Bangladesh on February 20. India’s matches will be played entirely in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after the Indian government denied permission for the team to travel to Pakistan.
One of the biggest highlights of the squad announcement is the inclusion of young Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has earned his first call-up to the Indian ODI team after a series of exceptional performances in domestic cricket, including a stellar showing in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Jaiswal’s promotion to the ODI squad comes as a major step in India’s long-term planning, with the player being tipped as a future star.
Along with Jaiswal, experienced players like Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah make their return to the team. Shami, who last played during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, is once again available for selection, bringing his invaluable experience to India’s pace attack. Bumrah, who had struggled with injuries, has been named in the squad despite concerns over his fitness, with Harshit Rana serving as a reserve in case Bumrah is unavailable for the early matches.
The inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav, who had a standout performance during the 2023 World Cup, further strengthens India’s spin options as the team prepares for the tournament.
