New Delhi - The Election Commission of India has officially announced the dates for the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections. Voting will take place on February 5, 2025, and the results will be declared on February 8, 2025. The Delhi Legislative Assembly’s term is set to end on February 23, 2025.

Speaking at the announcement, Chief Electoral Officer Rajeev Kumar revealed that 2 lakh first-time voters will cast their votes in this election, contributing to a new generation’s participation in democracy. Kumar emphasized the record-breaking voter turnout during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and expressed optimism for similarly high engagement in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

He also urged the youth to continue participating actively in the democratic process, stating that this growing engagement will help further strengthen the country’s democracy in the future.

  • Male Voters: 83 lakh
  • Female Voters: 71 lakh
  • Youth Voters (Ages 20-21): 28.89 lakh

  • Total Seats: 70 (58 general, 12 reserved for Scheduled Castes)

In a bid to ensure smooth election operations, over 13,000 polling stations will be set up across 2,697 locations in the capital. Special arrangements have been made to provide greater transparency, with 210 model polling stations aiming to improve voter experience.

Security and Transparency:

Rajeev Kumar confirmed that thorough discussions with various law enforcement agencies have been conducted to ensure the security of the elections. The commission also reassured the public about the safety and transparency of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Kumar stated, "All EVMs are sealed and dispatched under strict scrutiny. The process is completely transparent, and no unauthorized votes can be cast."

Controversies Over Voter List :

The announcement came amid allegations concerning discrepancies in the voter list. Some voters had raised concerns about their names being removed. Kumar addressed these accusations, asserting that voter list revisions are conducted through a strict procedure, and names can only be removed through official channels, involving the Election Commission and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). "There is no need to worry," Kumar added, "The voter list is maintained with complete transparency."

The 2025 elections will see a triangular contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Indian National Congress (INC), with 36 seats required for a majority in the Delhi Assembly.
