Governor Defies Mamata’s Plea, Reaches Violence-Hit Murshidabad by Train

Murshidabad - In a significant political development, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose visited the violence-affected areas of Murshidabad on Friday, choosing to travel via train from Malda, despite Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s request to defer the visit until normalcy was restored.

The Governor’s visit follows days of communal clashes triggered by protests over the Waqf Amendment Bill.

On reaching Murshidabad, the Governor began meeting families displaced by the riots. Many had sought refuge in neighboring Malda after the violence.

“I am here to meet the victims, confirm the ground reality, visit hospitals and relief camps, and will send my recommendations to the Centre,” Bose told the media.

Mamata Urged Political Leaders to Avoid ‘Disturbing Normalcy’

Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee had appealed to the Governor and all political leaders to refrain from visiting the violence-hit zone, warning that such visits might “disturb the returning normalcy” and amount to “fishing in troubled waters.”

However, defying the advisory, the Governor went ahead with the visit, stating his moral responsibility to stand by the victims.
