New Delhi - In a significant move for the sport of boxing, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has officially agreed to become a member of World Boxing, the International Federation dedicated to preserving boxing's place within the Olympic Movement.

The decision was made following the approval of the membership application by the BFI's General Assembly, with ratification pending from World Boxing's Executive Board. Mr. Ajay Singh, President of BFI, engaged in fruitful discussions with the President and Secretary General of World Boxing, exploring avenues for India's support in expanding the International Federation's presence in Asia, where the BFI stands as one of the largest National Federations.

As part of its commitment to the growth of World Boxing, the BFI aims to take a leading role in establishing an Asian Confederation and spearheading the recruitment of other National Federations in the region. Additionally, it plans to actively engage in the activities of World Boxing Committees and Commissions, bid for hosting World Boxing competitions, and assist in securing commercial partnerships to generate new revenue streams.

Expressing enthusiasm about India's entry into World Boxing, President Boris van der Vorst highlighted the country's significance in international boxing and emphasized the importance of such developments for the sport's future within the Olympic Games.
