Vanuatu PM Orders Cancellation of Lalit Modi’s Passport Amid Interpol Alert Controversy
Reports suggest Interpol declined India's alert requests twice due to lack of judicial evidence.

Port Vila - Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat has directed the Citizenship Commission to cancel the Vanuatu passport issued to Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi, following revelations regarding Interpol’s stance on India’s request for an alert against him.
As per reports and an online press release purportedly issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Napat confirmed that while standard background checks during Modi’s application showed no criminal convictions, new information has come to light. He stated, “I have instructed the Citizenship Commission to immediately begin proceedings to cancel Mr. Modi’s Vanuatu passport.”
Interpol Rejection Raises Red Flags
PM Napat highlighted that in the past 24 hours, he was made aware that Interpol twice rejected India’s request to issue an alert notice against Modi due to insufficient judicial evidence. Such an alert, had it been issued, would have led to an automatic rejection of Modi’s Vanuatu citizenship application.
