Southern Naval Command Deploys Relief Teams to Wayanad Landslide Crisis

Wayanad - In response to the devastating landslide that struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas of Wayanad district, Kerala, the Southern Naval Command has launched a major relief operation.

The landslide, which occurred on July 30, 2024, prompted immediate action from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). Following the request for assistance, the Southern Naval Command mobilized a disaster relief team consisting of 68 personnel from INS Zamorin at Ezhimala. The team departed for the affected site at 2:30 PM on July 30 and arrived at 10:00 PM on the same day.

The naval team includes skilled rescue personnel, medical staff, and essential equipment to aid in the relief efforts. Additional teams have been placed on standby and can be deployed at short notice if needed.

In a further effort to support the ongoing rescue operations, an ALH detachment in Search and Rescue (SAR) configuration was deployed from Kochi to Calicut at 7:30 AM on July 31, 2024. This deployment aims to enhance the rescue capabilities amid the challenging conditions posed by continuous heavy rains.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the Southern Naval Command is making every effort to provide immediate relief and support to the local communities affected by the landslide. The coordinated response highlights the commitment to addressing the crisis and aiding in recovery efforts as the situation evolves.
