Notorious Gangster Shamnad Arrested at Indo-Nepal Border

Thiruvananthapuram - In a major breakthrough, Kerala Police arrested notorious gangster Shamnad, a resident of Thannithuraykkal House, Veliyamkode, Malappuram, at the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border. The operation was conducted with the assistance of the state Anti-Terror Squad and Thrissur Police.

Shamnad, implicated in 22 cases, including attempted murder and charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), had been evading arrest while hiding in North India and Nepal.

The arrest was made in connection with a case registered at the Vadakkekkad Police Station in Thrissur City. In 2016, Shamnad was the prime accused in a high-profile robbery case, where he posed as a Vigilance officer to steal gold ornaments and other valuables from a house in Perumbavoor. The case, later investigated by the Anti-Terror Squad, resulted in a charge sheet being filed. Shamnad, who was released on bail in that case, subsequently absconded and became involved in additional criminal activities.

Shamnad is also known to have close links with extremist groups, including the organization associated with Thadiyantavida Naseer. Authorities are investigating individuals who may have provided shelter to him during his time in hiding.

The arrest was based on actionable intelligence received by the Anti-Terror Squad, marking a significant step in addressing organized crime and extremist links in the state.
