New Delhi - The fourth day of the Khelo India Para Games 2025 witnessed record-breaking performances as Punjab’s Jaspreet Kaur and Haryana’s Manish etched their names in history. Kaur shattered her own national record in the 45kg powerlifting category, lifting 101kg to claim the gold medal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Meanwhile, Manish set a new benchmark in the 54kg category, lifting 166kg.

At the end of Sunday’s competitions, Tamil Nadu and Haryana shared the top spot in the medal tally with 24 gold medals each. Rajasthan (17) and Uttar Pradesh (16) followed closely behind.

Jaspreet Kaur’s Rise to Glory

Kaur, who previously held the national record at 100kg, pushed her limits to set a new milestone. Her journey to this record-breaking feat was no easy task. “I wanted to outdo myself, and breaking a national record has also boosted my national rankings,” she shared with SAI Media.

Having debuted in 2022, Jaspreet faced initial challenges, including anxiety and rigorous training. But through perseverance and an improved training regime, she lifted 16kg more in less than two years, proving her mettle on the national stage.

Ramesh Shanmugam’s Dominance in Track & Field

Tamil Nadu’s Ramesh Shanmugam emerged as the star of the athletics events, winning his third gold medal by clinching victory in the Men’s 1500m T53/T54 category. His consistent performances have positioned him as a rising para-athletics sensation.

Adding to the tally, Maharashtra’s Bhagyashri Madh Jadhav bagged her second gold in women’s shot put (F33/F34) after a stellar performance in women’s javelin throw.

Archery, Shooting, and Powerlifting Highlights

At the Karni Singh Shooting Range, Sumedha Pathak (Uttar Pradesh) pulled off a stunning upset, defeating 2024 Paralympics medallist Rubina Francis to secure the gold in women’s 10m air pistol SH1 category.

In archery, star para archer Sheetal Devi clinched gold in the compound women open category, edging out Odisha’s Payal Nag in a nail-biting final. Adil Mohammed Nazir Ansari, the 44-year-old archer from Maharashtra, defied age to retain his gold medal in the W1 round men’s event.
