Women's Kabaddi World Cup in Bihar 2025 Up Next for Team India

New Delhi -2025:- The Indian Women's Kabaddi Team successfully defended their Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025 title, defeating Iran 32-25 in a thrilling final in Tehran. The tournament, returning after eight years, saw India maintain its dominance, securing the championship for the fifth time.
Following their victorious return, the team was felicitated by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports. To celebrate the achievement, the Minister announced a cash award of ₹67.5 lakh for the players.
Women’s Kabaddi League on the Horizon
During the event, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the government's commitment to women's sports and announced plans to launch a Women’s Kabaddi League, mirroring the men’s league. “We are committed to empowering our female athletes. Under PM Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat, we will ensure equal opportunities for our women players,” he stated.
India’s Dominance in Kabaddi Continues
India showcased stellar form throughout the tournament, cruising past Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia in the group stage before outclassing Nepal 56-18 in the semi-finals. South Korea remains the only other nation to have ever won the championship, securing a title in 2016.
Team captain Sonali Shingate credited the victory to intense training at SAI Sonepat and the support from the Sports Ministry and Supreme Court, which ensured India’s participation in the championship. “This win belongs to every player who fought hard for the title. Now, our focus shifts to the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup in Bihar this June,” she added.

Jitendra Pran Singh Thakur, Secretary-elect of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), hailed this win as a perfect rehearsal for the upcoming Women's Kabaddi World Cup 2025 in Bihar. Vinod Tiwary, President of the International Kabaddi Federation, praised India's leadership in kabaddi, acknowledging its key role in shaping the sport globally.
With the championship title secured, all eyes are now on the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup in June 2025, where Team India aims to extend its global supremacy in kabaddi.
