Selecters to Approach Rohit Sharma for Ranji Trophy Selection
Indian Skipper's Availability for Jammu & Kashmir Clash Yet to Be Confirmed
Mumbai - Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma is yet to confirm his availability for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled to begin on January 23. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that it will approach Rohit before finalizing the squad, which is expected to be announced on January 20.
Rohit, who has faced criticism for his recent performances, is under pressure to regain his form. The 37-year-old managed just 31 runs across three Tests in the recent series against Australia, which led to his omission from the playing XI in the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
MCA’s Plan of Action
An MCA official revealed the board’s intent to engage Rohit in the selection process:
"The selectors are expected to announce the squad on January 20, during which they will follow the due process of checking for the availability of every player. Rohit will also be approached around the time for selection," the official told .
Rohit Returns to Training
Rohit Sharma has already begun light training sessions upon his return from Australia. On Tuesday, he was seen batting alongside Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane at the Wankhede Stadium. He is expected to resume full-fledged training in the coming days, signaling a potential return to competitive cricket.
This development comes as Mumbai looks to strengthen its squad for the Ranji Trophy and as Rohit aims to address his recent struggles with the bat.
