Mumbai : In a highly anticipated comeback, India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma is set to play his first Ranji Trophy match since 2015. He has been named in Mumbai’s squad for their upcoming clash against Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled to begin on January 23 at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

Joining him in the squad is the talented left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, alongside senior Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane, who will captain the team. Rahane, a veteran of domestic cricket, led Mumbai to their 42nd Ranji Trophy title in the previous season, showcasing his leadership and batting prowess.

Star Players Bolster Mumbai Squad

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) unveiled a star-studded 17-member squad, featuring several Indian team players. Key names include:

  • Shreyas Iyer: Reliable middle-order batter and a mainstay in India’s ODI and T20I squads.
  • Shardul Thakur: India’s dynamic bowling all-rounder.
  • Shivam Dube: Power-hitting all-rounder with IPL experience.
  • Ayush Mhatre: Promising U19 batter making his mark in domestic cricket.

The selection panel, headed by Sanjay Patil and comprising Ravi Thaker, Jeetendra Thackeray, Kiran Powar, and Vikrant Yeligeti, emphasized a mix of experience and youth.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to participate was confirmed during a press conference announcing India’s squads for the limited-overs series against England and the upcoming Champions Trophy. His presence adds significant weight to Mumbai’s lineup as they prepare to take on Jammu and Kashmir.
