Dhoni's renewed commitment signals a transformative era for India’s drone industry, aiming to enhance agricultural efficiency and defense capabilities while creating jobs and fostering innovation.
Chennai - Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni has announced a significant increase in his investment in Garuda Aerospace, the pioneering drone startup, as he reaffirms his commitment to the company’s mission of transforming India into a global drone hub by 2030.
In a recent Facebook post, Dhoni, the most decorated captain in Indian cricket history, expressed pride in his association with Garuda Aerospace, where he serves as both Brand Ambassador and Investor. "As Garuda spreads its wings globally, I am excited to support a team that is making a positive impact across agriculture, defense, Industry 4.0, and the consumer drone sector," he stated.
Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, praised Dhoni's influence, saying, "Mahi Bhai has inspired us all at Garuda. His unwavering support drives us to excel." Jayaprakash highlighted Dhoni's star power, noting, "His connection to rural youth resonates deeply with our target audience, helping Garuda penetrate the deepest markets in India."
Garuda Aerospace has achieved a 50% market share in the agricultural and consumer drone sectors and is gearing up for global expansion. The startup was the first in India to receive dual DGCA certifications for manufacturing and training, setting industry standards.
Since Dhoni joined the company in 2022—celebrated with the flag-off of 100 drones by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—Garuda has experienced substantial revenue growth, establishing itself as one of India’s most valuable drone startups. The company has secured international partnerships with firms like Thales (France), Agrowing (Israel), and Spirit Aeronautics (Greece), focusing on technology transfer and local manufacturing to create job opportunities.
Garuda is also eyeing the defense sector, with plans to develop advanced drones aimed at defense applications, aspiring to become a market leader within the next two years.
Founded in 2015, Garuda Aerospace has rapidly expanded from a team of five to over 200 members, boasting the largest drone fleet in India with more than 400 drones and 500 pilots operating across 84 cities. The company has served over 750 clients, including major corporations like TATA, Godrej, and Reliance, and has recently partnered with global giants such as Lockheed Martin and Cognizant.
Garuda Aerospace is on a mission to positively impact one billion lives through affordable precision drone technology, leveraging the potential of drones in agriculture and various industries.
