Indian Navy's INS Teg Rescues 09 Crew from Capsized MV Prestige Falcớn off Oman Coast
Coordinated SAR Efforts with Omani Authorities Amidst Harsh Weather Conditions Yield Successful Rescue Operation
Ras Madrakah,Oman - In a heroic maritime rescue operation, Indian Navy's warship INS Teg has successfully saved 9 crew members from the capsized oil tanker MV Prestige Falcớn, which met with disaster approximately 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman on July 15, 2024.
The operation, which commenced on the morning of July 16, involved intense search and rescue efforts coordinated between Indian and Omani authorities. The MV Prestige Falcớn, carrying a total of 16 crew members including 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans, faced perilous conditions amidst rough seas and strong winds.
INS Teg, equipped for Search and Rescue (SAR) missions, played a pivotal role in the operation, rescuing 9 personnel comprising 8 Indians and 1 Sri Lankan. Additionally, Indian Navy's Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I was deployed to aid in locating any remaining survivors.
The collaborative efforts between Indian and Omani assets underscored their commitment and capability to conduct effective SAR operations even under challenging weather conditions. The rescued crew members are now safe, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of all involved.
