Amit Shah's Assam Visit: Strengthening Security & Governance in Northeast

Guwahati, March 15, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has embarked on a three-day visit to Assam and Mizoram, where he will participate in key security, governance, and community-building initiatives.

HM Shah arrived in Jorhat, Assam, on Friday night, where he was welcomed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“Reached Jorhat, Assam for a two-day tour of the Northeast. Will attend the land transfer ceremony between the Assam Rifles and the Govt of Mizoram. Additionally, will attend the inauguration of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Assam and review the implementation of three new criminal laws in the northeastern states.”

His itinerary includes:

Lachit Barphukan Police Academy: A Boost to Law Enforcement

On Saturday morning, Shah will inaugurate the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Golaghat district. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to modernize law enforcement training in Assam, equipping personnel with advanced techniques to tackle emerging security challenges.

Assam Rifles Relocation: Strengthening Border Security

After the inauguration, HM Shah will travel to Mizoram, where he will oversee the relocation of the Assam Rifles base from Aizawl to Zokhawsang, about 15 km from the state capital.

The move is aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of the Assam Rifles, a crucial paramilitary force responsible for securing the Northeast’s borders.Following this, Shah will return to Assam and stay at the state guest house in Koinadhara before heading to Kokrajhar.

Bodo Peace Accord Anniversary: Focus on Youth & Education

On Sunday, March 17, Amit Shah will address the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) in Dotma, Kokrajhar district.

ABSU, a signatory to the historic Bodo Peace Accord, continues to drive initiatives for education, youth development, and the "Mission Quality Education Movement - 2030".. The event will feature- Sports tournaments, Literary contests, Cultural performances

The conference aims to engage and empower Bodo youth, ensuring their active role in the region’s progress.

Key CM-Level Meeting: Reviewing New Criminal Laws

On Sunday, HM Shah will chair a high-profile meeting with all Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states.

Agenda:

  • Implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita & new criminal laws
  • State-wise presentations on law enforcement changes
  • Discussions on law and order challenges in the Northeast

Each state will present its roadmap for executing the new laws, highlighting law enforcement preparedness and governance challenges.
